In 1991 James Davison Hunter wrote a book entitled, Cultural Wars, a war conducted primarily over family, art, education, law and politics.  To this day the liberal left objects to the terminology of a cultural war.  There are “Christians” who contend that the position of Christians is a passive and loving one, we do not go to war.  Our Lord taught that we are to turn the other cheek, love our enemies and do good to those who hate us.  Yet the Scriptures also speak of our warfare in Ephesians 6 where we are told that we wrestle against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places and we must understand that these evil forces are at work in the people who are bringing sin and ruin to our country.  Therefore, we are to “…take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.  Stand therefore,” (vs 13-14).  The question here is what do we have armor for, if not to go to war?  Armor is not needed to just attend church on Sunday, get a pat on the head and go after being warmed and filled.  We, as believers in the Word of God, are to make a stand against the evil and we do so with the sword of the Word of God, while preaching the gospel.  This is why I have written a book, Attack Evangelism, because until the Lord comes for us, we need to stand for His righteousness and holiness and be on the attack with His gospel.  This passive attitude taken by the Church since the decade of the 60’s has proven to be a disaster.  It is past time for the Lord’s people to get off their seats, onto their feet, and into the streets and go to war.

This immediately brings us to the question, how are we supposed to fight this war?   In the above paragraph we discussed the fact of the cultural war, that our enemy is the one who rules in the darkness of this age, who is the devil.  There is a force of evil at work behind the scenes that is influencing men and women by enabling their natural total depravity.  The result is that our country is moving farther and farther away from God.  A recent study came to the conclusion that some 72% of Americans say the nation’s moral compass is pointed in the wrong direction, while only 22% say it’s pointed the right way.  Moving away from God is agreed upon by the vast majority of Americans as the wrong direction.  This raises the question, then why keep voting for the very people who are moving this country in this wrong direction?  The issue before us is our relationship before God, continued atheism and agnosticism will not solve the problem.  The first solution to this problem is the gospel, for the gospel is the power of God to salvation which results in a right relationship with God.  Therefore, we attack with the gospel and whenever and wherever possible we stand against every philosophy that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.  We live in a country where it is still possible to be heard and object to the agenda of the ungodly, therefore, we must take every advantage of these opportunities.  Such opportunities can be such things as in public debate and forums; on social media and with blogs; letters to those in public office making these kinds of decisions; and in the voting booth.  To believe on the Lord Jesus Christ not only gives eternal life but creates a better life and better society in the here and now.
